Shay Bredimus

Shay Bredimus is easily one if the most promising young artists of today. At the age of ten years old, Shay was walking his bike across a school crosswalk when a car collided with him. The handle bar of his bike punctured his skull and severely damaged his right frontal lobe. Now Shay finds drawing to be a perfect way to communicate his emotions.
Shay works on large Duralar drafting film with black tattoo ink as his medium. His drawings are free flowing yet full of emotional intensity. The drafting film allows multiple layers of ink to be applied and also allows Shay to utilize both sides of the film to help create depth. His portraits are all close to life size and beautifully executed.
We were lucky to host Shay's first solo show at the gallery of which I work, the San Luis Obispo Art Center. At the show's opening, Shay treated us to an artist's talk and Q&A. For possessing so much talent, Shay is refreshingly humble and kind. He is someone worth watching.

Welcome to the art side

Hello readers and fellow art enthusiasts. An art blog has been lingering at my fingertips for some time. Now it's happening! As a young artist, I'm all about finding images and artists that inspire me. This space will be a place to share my findings to help inspire others. Whether you are a seasoned professional, a student like myself, or an art enthusiast, I hope you enjoy what you find and that you drop by often.

We've all seen the nude in art. Academic painters painstakingly slaved over soft curves in France. Realists brought them to the everyday life. Art students have stressed over proportions in class. The nude has been and remains everywhere in art.
There's no way to explain the excitement I feel when I come across an artist breaking the nude mold. It would appear that Ryan McGinley lives his life naked or at least hangs out at nudist colonies. His series I Know Where Summer Goes emotes such joy in it's simplicity. There are no elaborate sets, no glamorous models, just the feeling of friends hanging out in the countryside. Naked in nature. Does it get any better?
